The decorations are down, the tree is back in its box and there are no more presents to unwrap, but this isn’t the time for a Christmas lull. The perfect pick-me-up is just around the corner – a visit to Bett 2017!
As the leading education technology event in the UK, when it comes to ranking my yearly highlights, Bett is always at the very top and an event not to be missed. But it pays to plan ahead and having been in attendance for the last few years, I like to think of myself as a bit of an old hand when it comes to navigating my way around the ExCeL London arena.
Whether you’re attending for the first time or like to consider yourself a seasoned pro, the following top tips will help you make the most of Bett.
First thing’s first – set your priorities
The first tip I advise will come before you’ve even set your foot out the door - consider what you hope to take away from the event. Bett offers something for everyone, but what development priorities are most important to you and your school? Are there any speakers you’re interested in hearing from or exhibitors you want to visit?
Bett is a huge event and unless you’re planning on venturing there for more than a couple of days, it can be hard to see everything, so whether it’s looking at the seminar agenda or exhibitor list in advance, try and get a feel for what you want to see. Take a look at the Bett website to map out locations and timings; with a definite plan in place, you’ll be able to come away with all the information you need.
Let’s get ‘appy
Excuse the pun above, but there’s no denying the popularity of apps and taking advantage of this trend will be another benefit when attending Bett. I highly recommend downloading the Bett app to give you easy access to the daily schedules, to bookmark any of your favourites, and to help you navigate your way around the show using a 3D map.
On the theme of apps, you might like to visit the SIMS stand (B190) for an exclusive look at our new SIMS Parent app and SIMS Student apps. We’re launching both apps at Bett, so pop along and see a demo of the software in action.
Dress for comfort
I like to think I can add a little bit of style to my own dress sense every once in a while, but even I know my limits and when it comes to Bett – comfort is key. A point I like to repeat every year is that practical shoes are a must. I think I’ve painted enough of a vivid picture of how big Bett is and clocking up the miles as you walk around is best achieved in comfy footwear.
Another piece of advice on clothing; think twice before you decide to bring a big coat with you. It can get hot walking around all day, so as long as the weather isn’t too cold, if you can go without or bring something smaller in size, you’ll soon be thanking me when you see the queue for the cloakroom!
Value for money
If you enjoy networking, then you won’t have a better opportunity to delve into conversation than at Bett. There will be plenty of brochures and leaflets to pick up along the way, but the real value for money comes from engaging and interacting with people. This will be your chance to ask all the questions you have face-to-face, meet your peers and build lots of new relationships.
It’s also worth keeping an eye on social media to follow the most talked about topics and debates. We’ll be tweeting from the SIMS stand throughout Bett, so make sure you follow our Twitter account @ESSSIMS and don’t forget to drop by our stand (B190) during your visit!
