This half day course explores the budget management functionality present within FMS and explains how to use this functionality to actively manage the school budget.

SIMS Financial Management System (FMS) covers the full range of accounting functions required by schools, whether they run their own accounts locally or have their finances managed centrally by their Local Authority. FMS is a finance package that runs separately to SIMS but which can be linked to gain information from SIMS. FMS can record all order and invoice information for suppliers, recording budgets and commitments along with cash book transactions, petty cash and general journals. It also produces cheque runs and bank reconciliations along with all the period end/year end procedures. It can also store and calculate salary information using SIMS as well as produce sales invoices and record equipment and Assets.

SIMS Discover is an analysis tool that takes data from SIMS and presents it as a series of predefined graphs. These graphs can then be manipulated and combined to create additional graphs. This half day course explores academic arrangements for the school year, including the assignment of students to classes and producing student timetables. This academic course complements the pastoral course. Before the new school year commences, both the academic and pastoral process must be completed in SIMS. The Charging menu route enables you to apply and update individual charges against a pupil/student. These charges will accumulate until they are transferred either to an interim bill or to the main periodic bill. The Billing menu provides you with the means to generate and produce periodic or interim bills. The system will normally generate one bill per pupil/student unless the payer has requested that all linked pupil/students be grouped together on one bill.

This course explores how the Course Management functionality of SIMS links the areas of Nova-T, Academic Management and Examinations Organiser. This course does not include Post 16 functionality, if this is required, please also book onto the PLA-05-05 Post-16 Learning Aims.
